Position Summary:

The Technology Systems Analyst is responsible for ensuring that all JIU stakeholders experience JIU’s Gold Standard of Excellence. This is done by participating in all phases (planning, design, development, deployment, and operations) of supporting our various application “systems” which make up the “JIU Application Ecosystem”.  This person is considered the subject matter expert and administrator for these systems and is frequently involved with training our internal and external customers, as well as conducting research and development initiatives to innovate and improve these systems for current and future needs.  This person uses their ability to understand and translate customer needs into business and technical requirements during planning and design, while leveraging their hands-on technical expertise as they develop and deploy system changes or fix issues.  The Technology Systems Analyst reports to the Director of Technology Systems and Support and is responsible for responding to all system users to address issues and concerns with respect and compassion in a timely manner. This person must be detail-oriented, organized, be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently, and be available for emergency support or scheduled systems changes on weekends and evenings.

 

Formal Education Required and/or Equivalent Experience:

·         Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Information Systems (Preferred)

Technical/Task Statements:

JIU Technology Systems Analyst

1.     With an emphasis on the Student Information System (CampusVue), serve as the primary application administrator for JIU’s suite of applications also including the Learning Management System (JESS), Content Management System (Drupal), Sales Lead Management System (Leads360), Document Digitization System (ImageNow), Predictive Dialer and Call Router (TouchStar), Custom Reporting System (Crystal).

2.     Utilizing the system support ticketing system, work all assigned systems tickets in a prompt manner, to include: enhancement requests, configuration changes, questions and analysis, issue fixes, and communicating status or resolution back to submitters.

3.     Prioritize work requests to ensure most urgent issues are addressed first, and help educate submitters on how to determine correct priorities.

4.     Understand the basic Software Development Life Cycle and associated methods including: Planning and Analysis, Requirements and Design, Source Code Management, Quality Assurance Testing, User Acceptance Testing, Production Deployment, and Operational Support.

5.     Establish and enforce processes and policies for administering JIU Technology Systems, while mentoring and training members of the Technology Systems and Support team to understand and adhere to the standards.

6.     Work with internal and external software vendors to coordinate enhancements, version upgrades and issue resolution activities.

7.     Ensure the internal Infrastructure team is operating properly to support the JIU systems and experience from the network/server administration perspective.

8.     Document and maintain system administration procedures and Job Aids for JIU.

9.     Communicate and coordinate all systems changes to the various JIU Department Leads to ensure all departments are prepared for system level updates.

10.  Serve as an escalation point for all systems related issues

11.  Attend the daily change control meeting as a JIU Technology Systems point of contact.

12.  Act as key point of contact for new initiatives related to process or procedure changes and train the Coordinator(s) on all changes.

13.  Maintain updates on a monthly basis to the course registration spreadsheets utilized by the Coordinator.

14.  Write SQL queries to support existing and new processes, and generate custom reports as needed

15.  Mentor, and train Technology Systems and Support Coordinators

16.  Influence the direction of JIU’s systems by working with the Director of Systems and Support, participating in planning meetings, submitting enhancement requests, and participating in testing.

17.  Work closely with the Director of Systems and Support, and the Technology Support Analyst to review and prioritize issues and defects list as well as enhancement request list with CampusVue.

18.  Assist the Technology Systems and Support Team in identifying system and process issues and changes to optimize business processes and increase efficiency.

19.  Assist with all systems updates through testing and release management.

20.  Provide business analysis and development in support of custom development initiatives to include: gathering requirements, performing impact assessments, conducting technical reviews, coordinating/managing development timelines, doing development work.
