Jones International Academy's SCTE-recommended training gets packaged

DENVER (August 31, 2005)-Jones International Academy (JIA), an affiliate of Jones International University®, is passionate about becoming the preeminent provider of education and training to the cable TV/broadband market sector.

"We intend to invest millions of dollars to help make the cable workforce the best trained in the world," said JIA founder and CEO Glenn Jones. "Our Broadband Bootcamp program and new VoIP training are just the beginning."

Three popular training programs for new cable installers have been packaged together in a streamlined CD-ROM package called Broadband Bootcamp. After Oct. 1 it will be fully available online, too.

JIA's Installer Training and General Safety programs have been named by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) as recommended programs leading to certification as Broadband Premises Specialist. All of the programs have been updated with demonstrations on new product lines such as HSD modems and digital settops.

"This package standardizes training for the new recruit in the field," said Mark Wagner, president of JIA. "It's flexible, it's consistent, and we believe it's a great bargain for the cable provider who wants to make sure their technicians are well-trained and qualified. We refer to it as 'basic training in a box'."

JIA training courses are the only made-for-cable, computer based programs that feature full-motion video of easy-to-understand demonstrations, designed for the first-time cable installer, but also meant to benefit veteran field technicians with new safety and selling techniques. Available via the internet or on CD-ROM, each program includes workbooks for study and Internet-based testing that provides instant results so the trainee can track individual progress and re-study areas that need improvement. Summary reports are also available for management to evaluate staff and align with other metrics to demonstrate the return on investment these programs will generate.

The three programs making up Broadband Bootcamp are:

  • Installer Training - Provides theory and step-by-step demonstrations of how to perform installs that last a lifetime.
  • General Safety - Provides general guidelines and tips on safe working habits and how to avoid hazards on the job.
  • Techsellence - Provides confidence building steps on how to spot and seize opportunities for up selling customers and leaving them with a lasting positive impression.

For a limited time, JIA is offering Broadband Bootcamp to NCTC and SCTE members for $279 per student. A 40 percent discount!! NCTC members will need to use the code "NCTC40" and SCTE members should use the code "SCTE40" when ordering online. Membership will be verified against current rosters.

STAY TUNED - Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) training is currently under development with an expected release date of October 15, 2005. "An early commitment of significant participation from two of the top 10 cable operators along with progress toward certification with SCTE, and a review by Jones International University for college credit gives you an idea of how popular we expect this program to be." Wagner added. For information on more programs available through JIA, please visit our website at http://www.jonesinternationalacademy.com/.
