Online university's 2006 commencement takes place in innovative virtual arena

DENVER (June 5, 2006)-In a unique underscoring of the digital delivery of its degree programs, Jones International University®, Ltd. (JIU®) is honoring its 2006 graduating class with a one-of-a-kind commencement ceremony, webcast from a futuristic, entirely virtual arena. The arena, dubbed the "cyberdome," was created by graphic designers, digital editors and Internet programmers to seamlessly weave commencement speeches, faculty honorees and the conferring of degrees into a single production.

The online ceremony will give webcast viewers the experience of sharing graduation with thousands of others, and will launch at 11 a.m. EDT on Friday, June 9 at http://graduation.jonesinternational.edu.

The ceremony will be archived on the website for future viewing.

"Although JIU is not a bricks-and-mortar institution, the cyberdome is an illustration of just how substantial the digital environment is," said Glenn R. Jones, chancellor and founder of JIU. "JIU is the world's university.™ We believe in investing in education and in our students, not in buildings. We want to celebrate that with an exceptional virtual event that everyone can access."

The 2006 keynote commencement speaker is Dr. Milton Goldberg, a renowned figure in U.S. education reform who will address the graduating class after an introduction by Jones.

JIU was founded in 1993 to enable students to learn from anywhere in the world, at any time. In March 1999 it received the first accreditation in the United States of a completely virtual institution.* Today, JIU offers undergraduate degrees in business administration and business communication, and graduate degrees in business administration, education and business communication.

"The virtual delivery allows a democratization of education," Jones said. "JIU's mission is to continue to expand the reach of education, to bring opportunity, personal growth and hope to everyone who participates."

The cyberdome will be used in future entertainment and educational productions to be webcast from the arena.
