JIU Joins Servicemember Opportunity College for the Marine Corps (SOCMAR)
DENVER, Colo., (April 28, 2009)—Jones International University® (JIU®), named a Top 10 Online University and the first fully accredited* online university, is proud to now offer degree programs in support of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Degree Network System for the Marine Corps (SOCMAR). JIU’s Bachelor of Business Administration degree program is eligible for participation in the SOC Degree Network System.
The SOC Degree Network System (SOCAD, SOCNAV, SOCMAR, and SOCCOAST) is a group of degree-granting colleges and universities that have pledged to help servicemembers and their adult family members complete college degrees by adopting military-friendly policies, such as reduced residency requirements, flexible transfer policies, and acceptance of non-traditional credit. Colleges within the Degree Network System act as 3home colleges2 for students and award the degree that the student is seeking. Courses in SOC DNS Course Categories offered by Degree Network System Core member institutions have two-way guaranteed transferability, making it easier for servicemembers to complete associate and bachelor's degrees no matter where they move during their military careers. When students are transferred to new duty stations, they may continue to take courses at their home college if online, or take courses in SOC DNS Course Categories from other Degree Network System colleges, as well as acquire credit for further military experience and tests. Credits can then be transferred back to the home college for the eventual awarding of a degree once all academic requirements are met.
