Jones International University to Provide Scholarships to Jones/NCTI Graduates
AGREEMENT FULLY PROVIDES SEAMLESS RECOGNITION OF JONES/NCTI ASSOCIATE'S DEGREES
More than 82,000 Cable Employees Impacted
DENVER (Sept. 26, 2006)-More than 82,000 cable workers who have successfully completed a course over the past 38 years from Jones/NCTI™ (formerly the National Cable Television Institute) will now be eligible for a tuition scholarship of up to 20 percent with Jones International University®, the pioneer in accredited online education, as a result of an agreement between the two institutions. In addition, Jones/NCTI graduates who have earned an associate's degree through the company's relationship with Arapahoe Community College will be admitted to Jones International University (JIU®) with full recognition of credits, saving prospective students the process of having to have each credit scrutinized for transfer.
The agreement is the result of an in-depth evaluation conducted by JIU of the Jones/NCTI course work and academic programs.
"After extensive review, we have found Jones/NCTI courses to represent a high level of quality education and to be worthy of an accredited institution," said Dr. David Leasure, president, Jones International University. "In addition, we recognize the notable achievement that cable professionals have accomplished in successfully completing Jones/NCTI courses."
More than 250,000 cable industry professionals have graduated from a Jones/NCTI course since the company began training cable technicians and customer care agents. Of those, over 82,000 have completed at least one course that is eligible for university credit, and more than 6,500 have earned in excess of 10 credit hours from Jones/NCTI.
"The tuition scholarships available through Jones International University are extremely valuable to our students," said Tom Brooksher, president of Jones/NCTI. "Depending on the number of industry professionals who take advantage of them, they could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to individuals and industry companies who have tuition assistance programs. And recognizing our associate's degrees will keep students from losing credits when they transfer to four-year schools, which often happens if the school evaluates individual credits rather than accepting the degree intact."
Jones/NCTI graduates may now further their higher education goals with Jones International University (JIU), the first entirely virtual institution in the U.S. to receive regional accreditation. Regional accreditation is the highest level of accreditation a university can obtain and is recognized throughout the world. The university currently provides five bachelor's and master's degree programs in business and education, with nearly 30 different specializations. JIU was founded in 1993 by cable industry pioneer Glenn R. Jones.
Jones/NCTI, a JIU affiliate company, provides workforce performance products, services and education to the broadband and cable television industry. Its products include performance tools and extensive training content in online, instructor-led and paper-based formats. Jones/NCTI also provides professional services, such as custom curriculum development, e-learning development and conversion, product sales support and customer education and workforce assessments.
Cable professionals who choose to further their higher education aspirations will be assisted through the registration process by JIU counselors at 800.811.5663 or at http://www.jiu.edu/. By taking online courses, on-site campus attendance is not required and classes can be scheduled on a student's own unique schedule.
