Video-rich VoIP training course also includes industry's first use of confidence-based education method

DENVER (March 24, 2006) - Jones/NCTI™, the largest provider of corporate training products, professional services, and education for the broadband and cable industry, has released IP Voice, an e-learning course that provides installation and troubleshooting training for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The release of the course also marks Jones/NCTI as the first company to deliver the unique education concept of Confidence Based Learning (CBL) to the industry.

IP Voice uses full-motion video and animation to provide a virtual hands-on learning environment, including actual demonstrations of voice service installation. Modules cover preparation, installation in single-family residences and multi-unit buildings, installation in homes with security systems, troubleshooting and safety. The course also outlines the concepts, theory and history behind the delivery of voice services by the cable industry, with a discussion of the transition of technology from analog to digital and its impact on VoIP.

The product is further enhanced by Jones' use of Confidence Based Learning in the assessment portion of IP Voice. The CBL assessments occur throughout the 10 modules in this program. In addition to asking individuals to verify what they know, the CBL assessments also asks that them to identify how confident they are in the answers they gave.

The results from these assessments are shown in individual learner profiles. Each profile identifies the difference between what the individual thinks he or she knows and what he or she actually does know. The resulting picture of the individual's knowledge can then be directly tied to how well the person will perform in the field. The CBL method, created by UCLA Professor of Education Jim Bruno, has been proven to reduce time and expense spent on foundational and on-the-job training, as well as an increase new-hire employee retention and customer satisfaction.

"With Confidence Based Learning the difference between employees being pretty sure versus confident of what action to take is enormous to a business in terms of operational expense and customer retention," said Tom Brooksher, president of Jones/NCTI. "The bottom line is, by applying this proven learning method to VoIP training, companies will experience fewer truck rolls after the installation, and better customer service from start to finish."

IP Voice includes three hours of video, where learners ride along with a field technician as he takes them step-by-step through all the aspects of voice service installation. The video is interspersed with animation, text material and demonstrations of technique filmed in close up. The entire course can be taken in an intensive two-day session, or over several days. Because the course is Internet-based, learners can take it at their own pace. For a demonstration, go to: http://www.jonesncti.com/prod/product_demos2.htm.

In addition to the video, each module includes a Job-Aid, which is a pdf file students can keep and print as reference materials.
